This blog is the home of updates from the Hip-Hop Lives Here Worldwide Tour.
Both Kapisi and Rapley have been involved in the entertainment industry for over 20 years. They both have a deep passion for their art form and strive on a daily basis to deliver music independent of corporate chains.
Kapisi has his own clothing label - Overstayer Clothing which is run online here. They design and screen print the clothing themselves working out of their home after running the public store in their neighbourhood for two years. Due to work committments (to Hip Hop!), the option was easier on their family to run the business from home allowing more time for their children.
They both produce and write their own music as well as carrying out commercial work to help pay them bills as all activities they carry out are done solely out of their own pockets. This involves recording albums, shooting music videos (sometimes with the assistance of NZOA - thank you!), manufacturing CD's, graphics, touring... everything!
Kapisi has a six piece band and also travels far and wide with Rapley (on the ones and twos) and the King himself holding down the front of stage. And on the rare occasion, tag team with Rapley taking the lead and Kapisi on the cut.
The Hip Hop Lives Here project has a set manifesto of projecting Hip Hop in a positive light - taking back Hip Hop and redistributing it for participants and lovers of the art form. Don't forget Hip Hop is yours if you want it. Hip Hop is within you grasshopper.
