Me outside Fat Beats on Melrose, Los Angeles 2009 |
My usual routine when I arrive into a city is find a computer to search the internet (used to be a phone book) for the closest 1] comic stores (for my wife), 2] toy stores (for both my wife and I), 3] basketball courts and 4] record stores.
Break Ya Neck Customs |
I then calculate how far it is from where I am staying...In this one particular case it was a $160USD return cab ride away but I was trying to get to FAT BEATS on Melrose so well worth missing a few meals while on the road plus there was Munky King just down the road so we hit two birds with one stone. But then we crossed the road to find Break Ya Neck Custom Sneaker cats...more shoes, records and toys...less food.
I am glad we made it to Fat Beats that one time, had a scratch, bought a couple of deejay and freestyle dvds, tees (for our big son who loves 90's rap, cos like most dope things they don't come in Hulk size for me LOL) and a couple of 12" records.
Running a retail store with my family I know its real tight right now and the online option is better economically, which is where you will continue to find Fat Beats. Word is though, the owners are not done with the idea of a physical outlet, so keep your ear to the ground. Thank you for existing in the first place, Hip-Hop appreciates you. (BTW I have been to the NYC and Amsterdam Fat Beats Stores too - rap record fiend) Peace.
